I plan to join the Emergency Nurses Association after I graduate. Their mission statement is, "To advocate for patient safety and excellence in emergency nursing practice." This mission statement appeals to me because advocacy is the reason I chose to become a nurse instead of a physician. Physicians focus on ilness/disease/injury and how to treat it. In my experience it is a view of, "The patient with diabetes, leukemia, Addion's, ect." To them the focus is the disease.

The reason I chose nursing is because the focus is not the disease, the focus is the patient. That's why nursing diagnosis don't include medical diagnosis, because the focus is not on just what is wrong with the patient, the focus is on the patient
