Leadership Style
To be leader one must have some inherent characteristics of leading that are natural and flow smoothly. A leader has the talent of understanding under challenging situations, thinking outside the box. Leaders are ready to take any risk and challenges (Marquis&Huston 2015). However, not everyone who takes the position of management poses the qualities of leadership that are favorable. Some leaders have different styles of control, which can be authoritative, democratic, of laissez-faire. The best technique of leadership depends on the organization and the need of the staffs. Therefore, it is imperative that leaders are flexible on their leadership style and be able to make a change in their way of leading when needed.

According to Chapman et al. (2014), an authoritative leader set up clear direction to follow and specific goals to achieve. In a time of crises, it is easy to implement new ideas and plan for the team since the leader is mostly in charge. The destination between the old and the new manager in their leadership styles was evident and even alarming as many nurses were quitting their position. A manager’s leadership style can influence how employees feel, their motivation, satisfaction and the retention of their job (Zydziunait & Suominen, 2014). Apparently, most nurses did not like the style of her new leadership, or she was going to the extremes. This manager started her leadership by changing the staffs on board, and She dictates how she wanted the management to run, the goals to be achieved, directed and control all the activates that are taking place on the unit. She was strict in her policies even when it could be changed to suit the situation of a patient for a better outcome. During a staff meeting, she talks most of the time and barely allow nurses to give an inside of how they feel about the job. Her style of leadership worked very well with keeping up with standards and maintaining policies. This form of leader does not encourage me to integrate into my management approach.The laissez-faire has the less correlation with leadership style (Zydziunait & Suominen, 2014). A Professional satisfaction was not noted with this leadership style. In a situation of an ethical dilemma, the responsibility is directed towards the subordinates that can create pressure and stress on the nurse (Zydziunait & Suominen, 2014).
Effect of a Leadership Style
The effect of the laissez-faire style of leadership can be detrimental to the quality of care for the patient if the leader has no control over the style of management. The major decision that needs to be put in place will have no power and nurses can take decisions that are not favorable for the patient. During ethical dilemma, the laissez-faire will cause more problems as the leader walks away from deliberating on the situation while living nurses to make the decision.
To be effective in leadership, it is always good to combine leadership styles during management to give flexibility with the approach and to apply the most appropriate leadership style when
