I believe that the weight hysteria that is affecting our society is very real. It is difficult not to notice the obesity trend increase without having to resort to scientific based evidence that demonstrates that obesity numbers are on the rise. I have worked in pediatrics for at least seventeen years and have seen first hand how this epidemic continues to slowly exhibit the long-term effects that it manifests. The Centers for Disease Control (CDC), presents the statistical numbers stating that one third of adults in our country are obese, (CDC, 2016). This information should scare us, this is a problem that affects everyone, and starts to creep up in our very own homes.
The CDC, additionally presents in their “Adult obesity facts” the impact that obesity had in medical spending eight years ago, an estimated total of $147 billion dollars, (CDC, 2016). …show more content…

I do not think that pharmaceutical companies, physicians, the clothing industry, and the food industry are out to make America fat. I believe that the problem starts in our own homes, with our families and us. We as individuals have lost the ability or the will power to control what we choose to consume, which in turn, allows us to make excuses for the choices we make. For some, not the majority, we can say that a genetic predisposition, or underlying medical condition is what influences their metabolic function, hence, resulting in obesity issues. Conclusively, I believe that obesity is a problem that is everyone’s responsibility, we need to come together as a home, community, state, and nation, we need to foster an environment that promotes healthy eating habits “not dieting”, and activity, support those that need assistance in treatment, and educate, educate, and educate to improve and expand awareness of the potentially deadly
