Obesity in children and adults is a problem that has been left alone too long. There is a difference between overweight and obese. A BMI of 30 percent or higher is obese while 25-29 percent is overweight. Around 68 percent of adults are overweight. Of that percentage, 35 percent are obese. In children from ages 2 to 19, around 16 percent are obese and 31 percent are overweight. Obesity has doubled since 1960. With being overweight comes many problems. Only some of the risks that obesity causes are type 2 diabetes, heart disease, high blood pressure, certain cancers, and strokes. Even if people lose the weight obesity can still affect the body and health for the rest of a person’s life.
Three in four people are overweight. A lot of problems come from the foods people eat and how little people go and exercise. Many jobs that adults have consist of them sitting all day not getting any exercise at all. After that they come home not wanting to cook a nutritious dinner, so they just eat fast food or even a bag of chips.
