Obesity is a startling problem in the United States with over one-third of the population being overweight and costing an estimated 147 million dollars annually while being the leading cause of preventable death not to mention that this problem could be curbed through diet, exercise, and in the most extreme circumstances, surgery. One of the ways of starting to lose weight, and it does not even require special foods, is to simply just eat less. In the modern age, it is increasingly made easy to count calories, record food consumed, and have a log that records everything down to the very vitamins in the food. With smartphones, a person can carry their log around with them the entire day and have quick and easy access to it. For those who want to be able to just grab something and eat it without having to record anything there are a wide variety of weight-loss programs such as Weight Watchers, Atkins, and Healthy Choice, just to name a few. These programs offer smaller food portions to prevent overeating and healthier, lower calorie, foods like vegetables in them. …show more content…
