One of the many qualities that a leader must possess is that they are selfless. A true leader will not put himself/herself above everyone else, they will simply guide the society into the right path. There is an excellent example of this trait in the novel, Lord of the Flies. “There’s no man with a trumpet. Only me.”
He was able to inspire hope in people through allusions and comparisons to the past. He was able to inspire confidence and fortitude by giving people the honest situation at hand using logos. And he was able to deliver his main message of strength and readiness by constantly referring to it within his speech. Churchill’s speech wen t down in history, not because he said what the people wanted to hear, but because he said what the people needed to hear. His honesty and rhetoric made “Their Finest Hour” one of the most crucially important and greatest speeches of the Second World War if not the past
When people hear the name of Winston Churchill, it instantly conjures up images of bravery, valor, and an unwavering commitment to his country. Many credit Churchill’s ability to deliver a moving speech as to why he was able to persuade a country to war. Churchill was not the only British leader able to move a country to war. Less known than Churchill, Queen Elizabeth had to rally her country to war in 1588 against the Spanish Armada coming to attack.
When a conflict approaches, how would you overcome it? Everyone responds to conflict in different ways, but there is always the best way to handle it. Many important leaders throughout the history, such as Nelson Mandela, Rosa Parks, Winston Churchill, and Elie Wiesel, all responded to conflict in a similar way. These leaders are all recognized for their courage and bold actions they took during a conflict. They reached out to millions of people hoping for something to be changed.
In this course, I have learn a great deal from each great leader presented in Aikman’s Great Souls, along with Erasmus and Machiavelli texts on becoming a great leader. Apart from the required texts, I have spent time learning from the biography of Winston Churchill, a man many consider to be a great leader, who paved the path of the world we live in today. Throughout the Johnson’s biography entitled Churchill, the author gives readers various examples of how Winston Churchill’s virtues as a leader shaped his decision making and his actions as a member of the British government, followed by his position as Prime Minister during World War II. Among the virtues exemplified by Churchill are determination, commitment, resilience, and relaxation.
A good leader would think things through and come to the best solution possible, especially if those actions will be affecting other people. Another example would be that of relationships, when dealing with other people, there are many instances in which we may be frustrated and want to leave that particular person, because of disagreements or fights. If we were to act spontaneously in those cases, every human would be alone for the rest of their lives. The proper thing to do would be to think things over, to look at every angle of the situation and act accordingly. Relationships, whether they are with a significant other or with a direct family member always take much effort.
I personally think that we all have a bit of Churchill’s leadership style in us. I can say although on a much smaller scale I feel that I would like to think I have some qualities of Churchill. For instance, I do think that one of my strong points as a leader is being, a transformational leader through inspirational motivation. I have had many opportunities to be an inspirational motivator as a First Sergeant. For example there was a situation where our First Sergeant Council was facing stagnant growth in our base community in regards to give back to our Airmen and we needed a change.
Leadership is rooted in trust. People are not going to listen and support a leader that they do not have faith in. No one is going to charge into battle without the inspiration of a great leader. Leaders should be able to be positive when the road ahead is dark. Beowulf was an inspirational leader.
I do believe that every obstacle or disadvantage can turn into something good. Whatever obstacle that is thrown at us we always have to find a way to solve it out, they always may seem like the impossible but everything is fixable. So with that being said, yes every obstacle or disadvantage can turn into something better. Some people say that obstacles like that or having disadvantages can’t turn into something good. They say it makes people even fear more because they are scared and don’t think they have a way out of it.
Keona Davis Leadership Communication Professor David D. Cook 16 October 2016 Winston Churchill is considered a great leader in history who was always prepared to overcome any obstacles by thinking strategically and appropriately. In his speech delivered to the House of Commons of the Parliament of the UK on June 18th, 1940 entitled “This Was Their Finest Hour”, Churchill encouraged Great Britain’s military to continue to fight. The nobility of a person’s greatest deeds in life will be “their finest hour” by going over and beyond the call of duty; Churchill understood the power of words and was able to articulate it in his speeches which motivated the people to continue to fight on. Leaders should always be able to inspire and motivate
My passion in the equine industry started from an early age. I was adopted when I was seven years old and from there on was raised in Nunn, Colorado. Growing up and being raised by horse crazy parents is where my love for horses prepared me for the future that I wanted to live and grow as a devoted equine pursuer. Since then it’s been endless learning opportunities, experiences, and it’s even influenced me to start up my own business in the last year. I recently started up Voshel Performance Horses.
Winston Churchill’s childhood revolving around the neglect from his father prepared him to handle certain situations as a leader because he showed to be eager to be in power, to be an overachiever, and to be a charismatic leader. Churchill could never satisfy his father as a child. He lived constantly trying to please the figure he adored who neglected him so much. He became powerless. Because of the neglect he received from his father and being told he was a disappointment, Churchill wanted to justify that he could do something to make him proud.
Winston Churchill was extremely passionate about the ideas of Democratic Freedom, and those who continually strived for victory. He continually built off these ideas whilst constructing his public image. When spoken about, Churchill would not only be considered an entity of virtue and humanness, but a voice of reason within such a tumultuous world. When leading the British people, Churchill would specifically choose not to release information regarding Hitler's vast amount of afflictions and wrongdoings. Within such cases as WWII, this was vital, for hope was just as important as militaristic success.
How to overcome an obstacle you ask? An obstacle is a problem that you have to face with- overcome a problem you have to have the courage to face it. once in my past I had a problem, my problem was my grades at school. My grades was lower than the average I handle it by working hard and focusing on my subjects. After working hard on my grades, my hard work paid off.
“Another source of greatness is difficulty. When any work seems to have required immense force and labour to effect it, the idea is grand” -Edmund Burke Obstacles are challenges that make a better version of ourselves, doors that we need to open to achieve greatness and success. These obstacles can range from your school work to the death of a loved one. Everyone faces obstacles and challenges, some overcome them and some get overcome by the obstacles.
