Pablo Picasso was a very famous artist and person. He had so many great artworks and very many themes to go along with his greatest creations. Not only did he have interesting paintings and artwork, he also had a very interested life. He had a very easy life growing up as a child but struggled deeply with emotions in his later days. Pablo was born October 25, 1881 to Jose Ruiz y Blasco and Maria Picasso y Lopez. He was born into a middleclass family whose father was also a painter in his early years. His father specialized in naturalistic depictions of birds and other animals. The reason of this period is because he lost his younger sister and that made him very sad and dark. During this period, he painted monochromatic artwork with shades of blue and blue-green. He was inspired to use these colors by Spain but he painted these artworks in Paris. In 1904, Picasso lived in Paris when his artwork career did not bloom. He was very unrecognized and lived in extreme poverty. His best friend, Jaime Sabartes wrote, “Picasso believed Art to the son of sadness and darkness and suffering…that sadness lent itself to meditation and that suffering was fundamental to life…if we demanded sincerity of an artist, we must remember that sincerity is not to be found outside the realm of grief.” His friend said this because no one understood why Picasso was so sad but little did they know, it was because of the death of his sister. Picasso didn’t just have a sad life. He also had a wonderful period of his career known as the “Rose Period”(1904-1906). This period wasn’t nearly as famous as his Blue Period but this was much happier and more colorful. He used warm colors such as oranges and pinks in contrast to the cool colors he once used. He was also a poet. One of his famous poems is, “When I was a child, my mother said to me, ‘If you become a soldier, you’ll be a general. If you become a monk, you’ll end up as the pope.’ Instead I became a painter and wound up as Picasso.” When Picasso died, his final words were, “Drink to me, drink to my health, you know I can’t drink anymore.” Everyone was so devastated when Picasso died.
