Pediatrician Personal Statement

The baby’s loud ringing cry resonated within the room. My heart pounded as I held down the baby boy’s arms and legs while the nurse showed me how to insert the IV. The mother looked nervous but reassured her baby in a calm rhythmic voice as she looked at the nurse and me. I gave her a comforting smile back . The nurse told me to loosen the tourniquet (a rubber band that was tied to show the veins) and the baby’s loud echoing weeps came to a halt.
This was a typical day of volunteering at the INOVA Loudoun Hospital as I shadowed the nurses and doctors in the Pediatrics Emergency Room. The awe of discovering the human body. The nobility to provide assistance to patients. The appreciation received when helping others. This is what drives me to my goals in medicine. My high school sciences, volunteer experiences, and shadowing opportunities have fortified my interest in becoming a pediatrician. I cannot imagine myself in any other career besides helping others through a lifelong journey through medicine.
This is why I look to Penn State. A university that will allow me to pursue my dreams and ambitions of medicine. My dreams will become reality as I make my way to classes such as physiology and neuroscience at Jefferson. But my dreams do not end there. From Penn State and Jefferson, I wish to carry medical school training to practices that have physician and doctor shortages and to areas that are not affluent in medical care. I desire to provide medical care to those who can not afford it. By entering into an accelerated program, I know for sure that my dreams will become a reality and that I will not stop until they are reached. I will be able to pave my future into medicine by applying to this accelerated medical program at Penn State, but for now I shadow and volunteer in hopes that one day that I will be the
