By taking on leadership roles such as being president of environmental club and public relations of class council, I am a mentor to others all while sharing the same interests and providing opportunities for them to build their own character. Prior to this school year, I was fortunate enough to attend a weeklong event called Rotary Youth Leadership Awards, where I lived there for a week surrounded by young leaders from all over south jersey. In this experience, I learned that being a leader means being understanding of others and their situations. With this experience I was able to bring back what I learned to my own communities like environmental club. Not only do I have to be organize and communicative, but I also have to be a role model to members of a club by showing my own good character.

Personal Statement on Leadership Holding a position of leadership requires a careful balance between authority and comradery. Description of the Situation In 2014, GreenForLife grocery was opened by Mark John (the owner) to supply people with fresh fruits and vegetables. After nine months, the demand for GreenForLife’s wide range of fruits and vegetables increased, and customers started making orders prior to picking them. In order to effectively serve the surging number of customers, Mark acquired a bigger gift shop next door that had come up for sale. Being the youngest of three children, I have felt the pressure of playing a role model to my siblings. Growing up in the inner city section of Los Angeles, I have seen many violent scenes in my area. My parents sent me to Lakewood High School to have a better environment while going to school, while there I had the opportunity to play on the girls’ basketball team. I later transferred to Lynwood High School during my junior year. I was involved in sports and an active member of the Young Black Achievers club on campus.
There is no doubt that the key to success is hard work, dedication and determination towards our goals whether we win or lose. As a sophomore in the university, I am strongly committed to giving my best whatever I do so that I can make my own unique contribution to our hectic but extraordinarily exciting city, and I have spent my school years building a firm foundation to pursue such. To reach my goal, I have devoted the time and energy necessary for academic accomplishment, and persistently made progress toward earning a degree with outstanding academic performance. 1. My philosophy of leadership is about collaboration and teamwork. Respecting and treating everyone the same, is key to supporting a good team atmosphere. I believe when a leader puts effort and care into assisting others, then their peers and followers will naturally want to support them. It is also important for a leader to recognize, that advocacy must never become so important that the critical elements of leadership are neglected (e.g. policy enforcement, command support, etc...).
I had been a person that was influential through high school, but never took a leadership role. I did small things among study groups, sports teams, and mentorship opportunities to make an impact on the people around me. I knew coming to Jacksonville, that I could make whatever out of my next four years that I wanted to. Once I got here, I saw how I had certain attributes in order to lead people, while also staying level headed and working with those around me. The first place I found this was when I rushed Delta Chi in the fall of 2016.
Competencies Competency is the ability to accomplish efficiently certain tasks. In Prince Mohammad University, there are six basic core competencies: communication, critical thinking, leadership, professionalism, teamwork, and technology. I have developed these competencies which have been improved in class work. I chose two artifacts from my class work for every competency. Communication Competency Communication competence is the ability to interact with others by understanding information as well as being able to send accurate, clear, comprehensive, coherent, expert, effective, and appropriate information.
Most importantly, since the contents of this course are largely different from what I have learned in my major courses. I regard this as a rare opportunity for me to take on some new challenges, and I would like to take a chance to develop my leadership skills. Before attending this course, “leadership” is a word quite far away from me, and I only have some basic understandings of it. And I found out that most of my thoughts I had about leadership are very different from what it really is.
1. Describe an example of your leadership experience in which you have positively influenced others, helped resolve disputes, or contributed to group efforts over time. I consider myself a leader, i believe this because i am the type of person that feels like if i am not the one to do it then it will not be done the right way. Whenever i would work in groups i would designate myself to be the one to do the harder assignment, because i only trusted that would take it serious, not anyone else. Also, whenever i do anything that involves a team, i like to take control, because i feel like i am the best one to work under pressure or i can choose the best solution for any situation.
