The reason why I decided to learn Global Studies major in abroad was because Global Studies was a new major in my country, Japan unlike in America. I wanted to learn it from different sides of views and think the issues that we face today widely. When I researched the universities, I was strongly interested in The New School. My understanding of The New School is that they have many of opportunities to not only leaning about Global Studies major but also working and learning from other students from different majors and departments. Furthermore, I believe that The global studies course at The New School has many educational resources and opportunities compared with most universities in Japan. Additionally, realizing that many of The New School students come from other areas of the world makes me think that each class at The New School are cosmopolitan. Therefore, I imagine that The New School’s environments give me opportunities not only learning from the textbooks but also to be able to learn about different cultures, histories, and languages from those students. I researched about Terrorism and Islam by using one of the terrorist incidents; September 11 attacks as a resource including the research about the effects of media to Muslims as my junior high school’s graduation research paper. Since then, I started being interested in Global Studies because I think studying this major helps me to make the world a better place and protect people and the country. As the last research that I have done is regarding the Human Rights issue and Nuclear Weapons issues in North Korea, including North Korean abductions of other countries’ citizens when I was at LaGuardia Community College.
