Obtaining an education has always been a personal goal of mine. Throughout my career as a student, I have shown my interest in discovery, exploration, and finding the connection between ideas and across fields. I am choosing to study and research a STEM field because of my past experiences through school and my own outside activities. In my freshmen year, I took a class that focused on experimentation. My teacher would present the purpose of the experiment, and then walk around the room to different groups of students and ask, “What is your plan?”. As we described our plan, he would just continuously point out flaws in our experiment designs: “How are you going to find the volume?”; “You can’t choose a random number!”; “Scales can’t measure mass!”. Since then, I think about how experiments are designed: how pure science is done. The process of discovery I find through experimentation inspires me to continue to want to be a part of the field. Throughout my science experiences, I have learned how the structure of science propels …show more content…

I am constantly looking to extend ideas learned, and working to understand through connecting ideas across distinct fields. My interest has been furthered by my participation in STEM-based activities throughout my high school career. I have worked as a counselor at the Juneau Camp Invention in the summer of 2015. Additionally, I have conducted research as part of the INTEL science fair, Genius Olympiad, and Stockholm Junior Watershed Prize events. I have also written research papers and presented them for the Alaska Tsunami National Oceanographic Science Bowl for the 2016 and 2017 competition.
