One experience that significantly influenced my academic interests was my leadership experience in my church youth group. In accordance with our goals, the youth is responsible for organizing a summer bible camp for the younger children. This summer, the other officers and I were hard at work putting together our camp. Trouble was, no one else was interested. With only two weeks left until the start of the camp, only one fourth of the kids had registered. We had to revise our marketing strategy and fast. Initially, the youth promoted awareness about the camp through posters and a trifold. The change began with an aggressive social media campaign. Regardless of the quality of the product, if people are not aware of it, then the product will not succeed. The marketing industry communicates the value of the good or service to the general public. Every product, company or industry has some sort of marketing strategy. Due to this experience, acquiring my marketing degree and pursuing a successful career in the field became my main goals. Marketing employs my social, creative, analytical and problem solving skills, with a reliance on psychology and human behavior. In addition, the industry is facing a boom in demand. Finally with a marketing major, I would be able to work for various company and pursue different interests. Taking all this into consideration, I decided to major in marketing at the McCombs School of Business. I choose the marketing program at McCombs because it has been ranked third best by US News and World Report. In addition, the faculty at McCombs made the top 10 list for best professors in the Princeton Review's business school rankings. Overall, UT Austin has been ranked number 30 in U.S. News and World Report Global University Rankings. The marketing program at McCombs School of Business has everything I am looking for in a major: a strong academic program taught by award-winning professors in a world-class institution.
