I recently joined a small group that committed to working through John Maxwell’s book “ 21 Irrefutable Laws of Leadership”. One of the biggest things that I have learned through this process is that if I commit myself to something God will help me find a way to complete it. This might sound a little strange, but being a father of 5 small kids, and a pastor on staff at our church it almost seemed like a small personal miracle. The second thing that it has helped me to understand is that even though you might not think of yourself as a leader you can find yourself in a position of leadership without knowing it. I do not know if I will remain a pastor or if I will venture back out into the main stream business world again, but I will leave that for a later time and the leading of the Lord. The priorities for now are to start back to school and complete my bachelor’s degree in business administration. I guess the next part of this essay would be how is this going to influence my work and goals at Colorado Christian University. Well I can tell you that in my life leadership has played an important role in everything I do, from serving my country in the United State Army Reserves. To choosing to leave college and a career with the United States Forestry Service to help take care of my Dad when he was sick. Leadership is who I am and what I do. I feel that I can bring that level of leadership into the classroom to draw out the best in other students, which will cause me to work even harder to succeed and be the best that I can be.
