Personal Statement

In my consideration to pursue a career in family medicine, my desire to work with and interact with patients in a family setting over the course of their lives serves as one of the greatest factors. My thirst for knowledge and desire to relieve pain in those I saw suffering led me to medical school in India, and this has been one of the greatest privileges of my life. I believe that it is important to be excited and passionate about my daily work and in the field of family medicine I know that I have found this calling. Throughout my medical education I have always been acutely aware that as my residency approached, I would select the best program I could find, and I thought I would continue to work hard to become the best doctor that I can become.
Over the course of this past year I have had the opportunity to shadow two doctors here at the Lyndon B Johnson Hospital in Houston, Texas, and it has left a considerable impact. I was given clinical exposure to advanced Operation Room settings. I constantly reminded myself of how this newfound experience would transfer over to my family medicine practice. Seeing things such as pain management during labor and cesarean sections all contributed to my clinical experience and gave me an advantage over others. Family medicine is a very large and diverse field and requires each practicing doctor to remain up to date on the latest research, to enable an effective practice. This is the greatest aspect of this discipline, as I am given the opportunity to constantly learn something about everything, and begin able to help patients who have a wide variety of needs.
