As a child, we are all asked what we would like to be when we grow up. I never really knew how to answer that question. I always saw myself as helping people in one way or another. Maybe I would be a doctor, counselor, or teacher. I always thought that those were the only ways to really make a difference. It was not until I began to study psychology that I realized that there were many other ways to make a difference. One of my professors once asked how many peoples’ lives the class thought an individual working in Human Resources would touch, either indirectly or directly. The answers astounded me. My older brother came here, and I always wanted be like him when I was young. He always spoke so fondly of his time in college, and I wanted to have that experience. After arriving at Purdue, I understood why he loved the university so much. I have never felt more empowered than I do on this campus. In these past three years, I was given the opportunity to work with many great minds and make so many amazing connections that I will cherish for the rest of my life. I have been able to work on four ground-breaking research projects that will change how we look at the world around us. I have been able to help develop a science educational curriculum, aid in cancer prognosis communication research, as well as the research mentioned previously. This semester, I am working in a laboratory that focuses on how ostracism affects interpersonal relationships. I know that none of this would have been possible if I did not come to Purdue. I have also been able to take advantage of a flexible program that has allowed me to take classes that I was interested in while being able to work part time jobs and be involved in multiple organizations while taking courses outside my major, including Management of Human Resources and Selection and Performance Appraisal. It is because of these many amazing opportunities that I knew Purdue’s Master’s program was a perfect option for
