I’m Mexican American, and one of my favorite interest academic interested is in math. The reason why math interests me is because I’m able to comprehend and understand numbers well. I am a logical thinker which involves mathematics and has made me be analytic. Math has influenced me to be organized and manage my time wisely. It has also taught me to read information carefully since the way numbers are written can affect the way people understand them. Being effective in math has led me to be organized and being able to divide my time allows me to work and attend school without stressing over lack of time to finish work. Knowing my time has allowed me to be on time and it is an important habit that I have developed which has certainly helped me in school and would also help me in the future. I turn my homework and arrive to school on time, which shows the dedication I have for my education. Overall my interest in math has led me to want to become a civil engineer. I come from an immigrant parent with no college or high school diploma who works in agriculture. Working in agriculture is a hard job with a low paying wages and this affects our family financially. I also come from a big family with five children living in the household. It puts mass stress and pressure towards my parents to be able to support me in college and my siblings. My parents do not earn enough money to be able to support me with education meanwhile still provide for the family. I know I want to continue with school and want to receive a higher education.
