Education can be defined as an institution dealing with the formal transmission of knowledge, skills, and mental abilities to the members of society. Education is one of the five major institutions, that provides upward mobility among the society we live. There are several functions that Education provides such as Transmission of Culture, Achievement of Literacy of Skills, Development of Social Skills, Dispensing Information concerning Physical and Psychological Well-Being, Preparation for Higher Education and Occupational Role, and the Promotion of Technological Change. Growing up I always asked myself “Why do I have to go to school?” I just didn’t understand what was the importance of education and why do we needed to go to school. As a child I always knew that I wanted to attend college, because with a degree I had better chances of getting a good job that would pay well above the minimum wage, providing a promising future for me and my family. As I was growing up I never actually had a career in mind, I just know that I wanted a career that involved science, engineering, and technology. As I kid I was always fascinated by how things were able to function and why they are able to function the way they are or as to why they were made the way they were made. Those questions were able to help me pinpoint what career I was planning on pursuing as I grew older. There are many characteristics traits that schools try to encourage their students to pursue, but I think that the most important ones are honesty, creativity, cooperation, generosity, and compassion.
