Biomedical Science fascinates me because of the complexity of the human body. Human beings depend on intelligence and immense curiosity to exist, making humans the most advanced organisms on the Earth’s soil. It astonishes my mind when learning about the large scale of different reactions taking place every second of our lives. A Biomedical scientist plays an important role in medical society. Because of the work of biomedical scientists, doctors and nurses can both diagnose and treat patients effectively. This practical application of scientific knowledge and research has a massive effect on healthcare services and the treatment of diseases; being part of this world would be an amazing achievement for me.
I have always loved sciences, especially Biology and Chemistry. Having chosen both these subjects to study for Higher and Advanced Higher has helped me a great deal. Studying Biology has improved my understanding by broadening my knowledge and giving me a deeper perception into the subject in related aspects of Biomedical Sciences such as Neurology and Human Anatomy. …show more content…

I learned about the importance of treating patients effectively. It became apparent to me that skills such as empathy, patience and compassion are vital to improve the doctor-patient relationship. This valuable experience increased my interest in the illnesses, drugs and the development of treatments; giving me an insight into a career in Biomedical Sciences. I was very fortunate to be selected to attend the Sutton Trust Summer School this year, where I studied Chemistry and Medicine. It gave me an insight into university life and the opportunity to speak to medical professionals and students.
