Medicine is an ever changing and evolving field .Doctors and researchers may spend a number of years trying to find out the cause and cure for a disease , only to realise once they have ,another disease appears . This is one of the many reasons why I find medicine is an intriguing and a distinctive field , as there is no beginning and end. The prospect of life -long learning involved in medicine increases my curiosity. Studying medicine opens many career options from general practice to clinical research. Medicine is challenging and yet gratifying and unique. Acknowledging the hard work and motivation that is involved in such a vocational degree, I am more than eager to become one of the few that are privileged. This invaluable opportunity has given me the chance to observe and work with various healthcare professionals in a modern setting. Completing the course, I began to contemplate the deep contrasts between the cultural and socio-economic attitudes towards health. This strongly influenced my decision to arrange a visit to Kenya in the summer of 2013. Having not experienced a health setting in an undeveloped country prior to my visit, I was able to appreciate the stark differences in the healthcare provided in the UK and in Kenya. I came to appreciate the multi-disciplinary roles that make a hospital efficient.I observed that despite inadequate facilities, the hospital staff overcame many obstacles using exceptional team work and professionalism. In my spare time I engage in a variety of sports , including football , swimming ,and cycling, which I hope to continue .As I believe a healthy body makes a healthy mind.I am also eager to take on new challenges while studying at University such as learning the British sign language to make me a more well rounded individual . I have participated in the Duke of Edinburgh Award; debating society and STEM ambassador. I have tutored children in Mathematics and Science, which has enabled me to build up my interpersonal skills. It has also increased my ability to portray information and ideas in a clear and thorough way. I undertook a St. John's Ambulance First Aid course, which led me to being certified as capable in First Aid. Being the team leader during the Duke of Edinburgh expedition has allowed me to consider the individual needs of my team mates and those of the group as a whole. Completing my Duke of Edinburgh award has equipped me with skills of teamwork, leadership, problem solving, and initiative which are necessary in solving medical
