I love music. I love the ability to express myself without speaking, the feel of the white keys touching my fingertips, the freedom my fingers catch when they play melodies and scales. However, I want to explore other areas of studies as well because I believe it is important to have a broad range of knowledge in addition to a specific area of study. Conservatory-style universities do not offer this. This is why I have come to admire Cornell’s core curriculum for music – one where I can pursue my love for music without sacrificing other valuable knowledge. I love the ability to dive into a whole new world and forget about reality for a while, to become a new person. I can do that by simply reading books, of course, but I love the ability to create my own world, my own story, and make up everything I want. I love dragons and other mythological creatures; I love mythology in general, really. The stories are so fascinating. I love stories. Creative writing has always been a hobby of mine and always will be. They have an endless thirst for knowledge. They all share a love for learning. I look up to everyone I know who has attended Cornell - from friends that are current students, to famous alumni such as Bill Nye and Toni Morrison. I aspire to be part of a community like this - collaborative, dedicated, kind, and inspiring. Part of Cornell’s Mission Statement is “through public service, to enhance the lives and livelihoods of our students, the people of New York, and others around the world.”
Looking at the great changes students at Cornell University have brought to the world today, the Mission Statement rings truer than ever and it fuels my desire to attend. I want to be a part of that group that changes the world – even if it’s just a little
