My motivation for pursuing any of my goals has always been because I want to make sure that I able to provide for myself without having to worry about if I have enough money till next paycheck. Because my parents never went to college, they made sure that I grew up knowing the importance of the having an education, although times have changed and having an education is not always important in becoming successful, I still believe that having and continuing my education will help me achieve my personal and academic goals. It has showed me that no job is too big or too small even if no one is watching and even if “someone else can do it”, it doesn’t mean you shouldn’t do it. My community service involvement has showed me that a lot of hard work and thought goes into any and every job you can think of. It has also opened my eyes to the fact that just because it may not be my dream job, it may be someone else’s. Being an active community service member has shown me how to work with people of all ages, backgrounds and has shown me different ways of thinking to solve problems, quicker and easier not only for me but the group as a whole. Ever since I moved back to Brownsville,Texas the variation between the different people and cultures changed drastically. When I moved I noticed a shift in my communities thought process and beliefs, which opened my eyes and allowed me to be aware of things people older than me still are not aware of. The culture in Brownsville is very family oriented and would much rather see children stay then leave and experience life for themselves. Although Ennis is family oriented as well, parents are much more willing to see their children succeed, even if it means they have to leave the nest. My fellow classmates in Brownsville, do not understand why I push them to leave Brownsville or why they need to leave in the first place, not noticing the pattern until it is too late them. My parents were forced to leave home when my brother was born, putting them in a situation they never thought they would be in, moving us to Ennis. As i grew up I noticed that there were people of many different ethnicities and backgrounds but I never seemed to care, being that I was raised to treat all people the same way with love and respect, even if they did not reciprocate the feelings.
