I want to be an officer within ALD/PES because I want to contribute to the development of the honor society, community and under-performing students. I believe that many students are not aware of the vast opportunities that are found within honors societies. I want to help under-performing students understand that striving for academic excellence can lead to intellectual stimulation, community engagement, highly-driven support groups and a wealth of scholarships opportunities. Students should not be deprived of their academic success or potential simply because they were not aware of honor societies. The only reason I am able to experience UT today is because of my involvement in an honor society. My devotion within my honors society gave me the opportunity to win the scholarships that have enabled me to continue my academic endeavors at UT Austin. Being an officer of ALD/PES will allow me to give back to an honors society that has given the opportunity to fulfill and continue my academic aspirations. If given the opportunity to be the service Event Coordinator, I want to incorporate the aspects of academics into service events. One way that the honor society can do this is by developing a research project around a particular service event. This research project would be articulated in a paper and showcased to an audience in the form of a poster at the end of the semester. The research would include the particular topic that the event is trying to address, number of people impacted, duration of the event and measures taken to inform people about the topic (guest speakers). People would be better able to remember our events and recognize the endeavors of the honor society by having a detailed research project that documents the
