I have led many club activities such as concession stands, volunteer services, and other community led activities. I have become a great leader to many of these kids as president of our school club, S-Club. I am in very good standing academically and known for my exceptional work ethic. I have matured with each of the trials and events I have encountered that have come my way during my senior year. The skills I have gained over the course of the year will help me towards my main career goal in mind, professional.
I am Densia Wray, a sophomore at City College majoring in Political Science and possibly Public Relations or minoring in Journalism. My decision to pursue these majors came after thoroughly enjoying my Intro to Media Communications and Intro to Political Science classes, as well as my desire to create local and societal change. Although it took a while for me to make this decision, once I started listening to what I really wanted and not what I thought was wanted from me I realized what I really want to do with my life. Ever since my first real introduction to the world and its realities in my high school English classes I knew that my purpose was not to conform to what society wants from me but to challenge society to change. Over the summer
I hope to bring diversity to all who walk on the campus. My background has shaped me into the intelligent African American woman I am today. Without growing up in the “hood”, I may have not been able to find the best career that interested me. I also would not have been able over all the challenges thrown at me. Instead I remained determined and motivated so that I was able to achieve all of the goals set before me.
My ultimate endeavor since attending community college has been my involvement in school, specifically with Phi Theta Kappa Honor Society. As an engineering major I am limited to a diminutive amount of free time, due to the quantity and difficulty of my classes. However, this limitation and the fact that my ride to school is a two hour trip on public transportation, has not stopped me from participating in extracurricular activities. Applying my time management and responsibility skills that I acquired from taking several math base classes at the same time, I managed to become a member of clubs and attain leadership roles. I first became the Vice President of Service, for Phi Theta Kappa and organized service events on campus and outside of campus.
This year, I have continued to achieve academic excellence inside the classroom while continuing to be a leader in the St. Paul’s community. For the first semester, I have earned four A’s and three B’s in the full International Baccalaureate Program (my school will be sending my updated transcript). This winter, I earned the role of the captain of my varsity basketball team. I am a leader on the court and try to set an example for my teammates of how important it is to work hard in all aspects of life. This year has been the third year of the Jewish Awareness Club at St. Paul’s, which I founded in my sophomore year.
“I did then what I knew how to do. Now that I know better, I do better.” - Maya Angelou My four years as a student at Middle Creek High school have taught me endless amounts of knowledge, but a few memorable lessons that are not in a curriculum. Through challenges presented by teachers, responsibility only the toughest classes could teach, and the endless memories with peers and friends.
Finally, I believe that I can make a positive contribution to the Honors College program. I hold myself to high academic standards and am committed to working hard to achieve my goals. I enjoy collaborating with fellow students and professors and approach challenges with a positive attitude and drive to succeed. I am confident that my passion for learning and strong work ethic will inspire and motivate my peers to push themselves to achieve their full
I absolutely love working with high school students. I taught high school before, but counseling in a high school creates a different dynamic with the students. I love interaction, relationship with students, counseling and diversity of each day. Working with students and families through the college admissions process is quite rewarding and provides a nice balance to the problems that I handle day to day. I love the positive and proactive spirit of applying to college and the excitement it brings to the student.
During my time as president of the honor society I was able to receive an additional scholarship for outstanding leadership. I was involved with several student associations in my undergrad years. After I graduated with my Bachelor’s degree in Criminal Justice I began the
Personal Statement For Seniors I am the type of person that has always thought outside the box. I 've never been afraid to succeed in what possibly my friends and family have never delt or ventured into. Coming from never being in charge of anything important really I soon began to take role of captain but not in anything militaristic but captain for a few different community soccer teams throughout my life. I believe in all that I have always been a guy that takes charge in things I truly care about and succeed in them.
Going to Oberlin would be like going to my high school, only tenfold. My high school is very diverse and I've been able to experience a myriad of different situations that, if I had gone to any other high school, I would never have encountered. The majors Oberlin have available are also big attraction points for me. When I get older I hope to become a roving photojournalist/psychologist, who writes her own books and sometimes works for National Geographic, and I feel as if Oberlin will help cultivate this dream of mine and turn it into something even more fantastic than what I imagined (i.e. running my own business that employs other photojournalists/psychologists who trek the world documenting big issues caused by people and figuring out why
Brennan Tramonte Mrs. Elliott English IV 8-25-17 Understanding My Purpose I was never raised in a Christ-Centered household. It was me, my sister, and my grandma with support from my uncle, and it is still like this today. My sister and I came from a public school, but by the seventh grade, it was time to choose where we were going to go to high school. I could have chosen any school I wanted to go to.
Considering my age, it would be very difficult to believe that I would really want to join college. However, two factors largely alleviate my interest in having a degree. Firstly, I enjoy school. It keeps one busy, provides an array of materials to read and widen one’s knowledge, and is a platform to meet different and unique people. Secondly, having two sons who are inquisitive about college challenges me to really get a degree, and actually be an example to them.
My short term personal goals are to graduate from High School with a 3.85 GPA, receive perfect scores in the Piano Federation festival in March, receive my High School Guild diploma in the National Guild program, and grow in my walk with the Lord. My short term education and career goals are to get a second part time job for the upcoming semester and summer. To reach my short term goals I am going to practice piano and study more. I will choose to cut out unnecessary activities (pleasure reading, watching television shows and movies, etc) to dedicate more time to studying my school books and practicing the piano. I want to spend more time with my Bible and in prayer.
I want to be one of the youngest black woman that little girls look up too and say “that I want to be just like her one day”. I want to make it a priority to teach women but also make sure I am teaching those who are less fortunate as well. I want to teach them how to have healthy hair and how to manage their skin and what healthy products to use. I would like to be able to give back to my community as well. Overall, I want to be one of the greatness
