Because children are still in the process of learning to distinguish between food and other objects that are not to be eaten it can result in causing confusion in the young learner so therefore it best not to use food items for eating as art materials. Also art work such as paintings and collages that makes use of food can most definitely not be displayed and kept for long periods of time as it can attract insects and go off or moldy. This could have a negative effect on the child if his art work no longer looks as beautiful as it did when he created it.

My name is Maury Duarte and I am an Early Childhood Educator. My philosophy is that if u are dedicated to building a safe, home-like yet stimulating and educational environment. Each child can then experience the sense of equality and trust within the classroom. By creating this type of environment it will ensure the child a warm, loving, caring, supportive atmosphere where each child can succeed, grow, feel loved and secure and develop a sense of belonging. I believe this occurs when educators have a genuine interest in caring for the children and love what they do.

My educational philosophy has been in development for 15 years. It is a product of my own experiences in school, as well as my opinions on what skills should be taught, and to what extent different components of the child should be developed. The academic, social, emotional, and cognitive development of the children can be heavily influenced in PreK and kindergarten classrooms. It is dependent on the teacher to conduct their classroom in a manner that successfully facilitates the development of each child’s faculties. As a future teacher, it is critical that I enter the classroom with a clear philosophy in regards to how I believe education should be conducted.
Reflecting on my educational and practical experiences, I appreciate the infinite influence that teachers have on children. I realise that children will take the skills and knowledge learnt in the classroom and use it throughout their lives. I know a teacher has to deal with many daily pressures and challenges, in the classroom. However, I feel I require the skills needed to deal with these challenges. If someone would have asked me when I was five years old what I wanted to be when I grew up I would’ve told them, without any hesitation, that I wanted to be a teacher. I vividly remember playing school with my friends in the small apartment that I lived in. I would set my living room up as a classroom, where I used kitchen chairs and trays for desks, a chalkboard, and a Barbie notebook for my grades and assignments. I would give each of my friends’ homework to do that I expected them to come back with the next time we played. I think it is safe to say that my determination, strong-will, and motivation started at a young age.
1. While observing the elementary students I noticed a difference in social behavior between different grade levels. The ability to function with other and socialize is due to their emotional age. (pg 10) The younger students that were either in kindergarten or first grade struggled to share the equipment.
