Personal Statement: Pursuing A Career In Education

To begin with, last year I began studying a bachelor of nursing to pursue a career in either nursing itself or transfer after first year to paramedics. After finishing 2014 university I decided that nursing wasn’t for me, so I had to make another big life decision in which I had to choose a career path. After the summer holidays ended I decided on the path of teaching, how I came to the verdict is that after much talking to friends and family, and having a hard think it came down to I enjoy the faces people make when the lightbulb turns on in their head when they finally understand what you have been trying to teach them, this has probably come from leadership positions throughout my life. Time management is another necessity when becoming a teacher as you need to be able to be able to balance multiple areas of schooling, for example; preparing class activities for the day and marking assignments, you have to balance between the two. There are two more great qualities needed in teaching, they include; to be outgoing and energetic. Since a teacher wants the students to be engaged with what they are learning, teachers constantly need ways to provide activities, readings, and other ways which help children learn, this relies on energy to keep going and providing the best education the children can get. Since teaching requires interaction between people, it also “draws on our capacities to engage 'in meaningful interactions; to think and reason and to encourage thinking and reasoning, to create and relate, and to encourage creativity” (Gibbs, Colin 2006). All of these interactions are created through relationships between people such as students, colleagues, parents, families, and
