To Whom It May Concern

Throughout my high school career, I have tried my best in school while balancing other important activities in my life. However, as an immigrant living in the rural countryside, I have experienced many challenges in my academic journey. I have a very different way of learning therefore it has been hard to earn good grades while playing in band and pep band, working in a gas station to support my parents, translating important documents for my parents, teaching my younger sister, volunteering at a local restaurant, and most importantly just being a teenager. This would result in a horrible representation of my intellectual abilities. An example of this was when I was a sophomore and multiple students dumped milk and cereal all over my car due to my race. The other example would include when I was constantly harassed and even threatened all because I was an immigrant. The teachers and principals all heard about the situation but decided to ignore the situation. As a result, my academic performance began to worsen which also made me not join school organizations due to the potential harassment I would face due to my race.
I would like to highlight how I mentioned I was similar to water in my original essay. My ability to adapt and flow, just like water, has allowed me to overcome the challenges that life hurls at my face. I have faced numerous obstacles as an immigrant living in a rural countryside but I have never let that hold me back. Instead, I have used my past experiences to fuel my drive and passion for success. The qualities I always take pride in are as follows:
Integrity: Worked hard to balance multiple adult responsibilities at a young age while striving for academic success at the same time
Diversity: My challenges as an immigrant dealing with various forms of racism taught me to advocate for others and be proud of my background
Excellence: Believed in myself by taking five dual-enrollment classes my senior year to show I am prepared for college work & have a perfect 4.0 college GPA
Innovative: Able to push my way through adversity such as experiencing threats and still finding ways to excel throughout my life
Collaboration: Tutored young kids so they are able to excel in school, volunteered all my life in a local restaurant, and worked at a gas station to support my parents
Respect: Never let racism impact my interactions with others therefore, I respect others even in the face of adversity
As you can tell, the qualities I take pride in owning are the same qualities the University of Washington has as its core
