The title of this paper may seem bitter and hard, but sadly to families wanting to expand by adopting they are having to weigh the cost and effects. It is nice to think of adoption as a wonderful, smooth transition of a child without a family to a child with a family, but sadly this wonderful process is expensive and can be physically and emotionally draining. A family expanding and a child being welcomed into a new family seems like it would be the happiest moment, but the time and money leading up to the adoption seem to drive people away from the idea. Not only is money an issue when it comes to adoption, but there are many other things to consider, such as, if they are eligible to adopt, if they have the resources to take care of a child, are they wanting a child from the United States or would prefer to adopt internationally. There are a lot of considerations when it comes to adoption, but the joy of a family expanding and a child being saved makes adoption and all the hurdles that come with adoption worth it.
