From a research by Edgar Snyder, 11 teenagers our age die every day, because of texting whilst driving. The usage of social media has increased than ever before, and it is still increasing. Today there are 2.34 billion people worldwide using social media, and in research conducted by AT&T 4 out of every 10 smartphone users in America use social media whilst they drive. However, even though there are so many incidents that happen because of texting and driving, the penalty people get is relatively light, This is why texting whilst driving deserves the same penalty as drinking and driving. Firstly, Each year there are about 1.6 million crashes occurring because the use of social media whilst driving resulting in over 300,000 injuries/ medical problems. With drinking and driving, there are only 10,000 crashes which are way less than the number of crashes there are for texting and driving.there are a lot of teenagers dying, because of the use of cell phones whilst driving. As I said earlier there are 11 teenagers who die every day from texting and driving and teens are 4x more likely to have an accident than adults, and 21% of all teen drivers are involved in deadly accidents. …show more content…
