In discussions of Texting While Driving, one controversial issue has been that texting while driving is worse that drinking and driving but it also says that it doesn’t pose as a danger. On the one hand, Stephanie Hanes argues that texting and driving is as dangerous or more dangerous than drink driving. On the other hand, the article “Cell Phone Use While Driving May Not Pose a Danger” contends that it is not that dangerous comparing to drink driving. My own view is that I think that texting and driving is is just as bad as drinking under the influence because both are not fully paying attention to the road and not being safe. I think that texting and driving is as bad as drinking and driving. People that text and drive think that they can do two things at once. When really you can’t. I agree that more people talk on the phone, a point that needs emphasizing since so many people believe that texting and driving is safe. “Far more people talk on their cellphones and use other electronic gadgets in the car than drive drunk, safety officials say. A generation of text-happy teenagers are getting their driver's licenses, and established drivers are increasingly buying smartphones that allow for distracting activity beyond just texting and talking—GPS [global positioning satellite] and entertainment devices, too, pull eyes and mental focus off the road” (Hanes). When you text and drive your focus is mostly on sending the text that you are sending and not on the road. “At times, their cell use is distracting and dangerous because it takes place when their attention is best focused elsewhere.
