The topic of being gay and gay marriage has been quite controversial in the past, and it still brings heated discussions to the overall subject. Being gay by definition means to be homosexual, relating to, or used by homosexuals (Merriam-Webster). Consequently, there are many disputes over gay marriage. For example, religion has been an active ground to stand upon when discussing the overall topic, stating that man and man or woman and woman should not be together, it should be man and woman (Waldman, Steven, A Common Misconception). Admitting your sexuality and being gay in the past was a massive social stigma. However, people who have come out as gay and have accepted their sexuality have gained equal marriage rights like other heterosexuals. Being gay does not make somebody any lesser of a person, it does not change the fact that they are a human being. Andrew Sullivan stated that he does not see a reason why every citizen should not be treated the same way, he said that he saw many good reasons why a whole group of citizens should not be denied marriage rights (Wolff 191). The act of gay marriage is fair because if other heterosexual couples exhibit all of the same characteristics and components as one who is gay than they are not different. Heterosexuals do not love all of the same people, not all men and women look the same, there is a variation of people in the world. Like people who are gay, they do not love all of the same people along with heterosexuals; the only difference is that they find the same sex attractive instead of the opposite sex. Furthermore, having a different sexuality than others does not make a person lesser, it makes them the same as others who deserve equal
