As a Junior and Senior in high school, making the decision of where I’m going to school next year is one of the most frightening decisions I’ve ever had to make. In the moment, it feels like if I make the wrong choice, my world is going to shatter apart. If I pick the wrong choice, my life is over. There is so much pressure weighing on one decision, and within that decision there's dozens of factors to consider. What types of programs does this school offer? Is this school in a desirable location? What is the schools sports teams like? Is the food in the cafeteria good? Is the school big enough or is it too small for me? All these factors depend on one larger factor: the size of the school. Thesis: Although larger universities and smaller colleges …show more content…
The person speaking for this presentation shockingly enough went over the exact same information for Hope College that I had heard regarding the opportunities at the University of Michigan: clubs, sports teams, and travel abroad opportunities. The difference this time is that I was shocked when i heard the words “travel abroad” in this presentation. Since Hope college is a small liberal arts college with less than 5000 people, I never would have thought in a million years that they would have the resources or programs that the University of Michigan had. Although Hope College doesn’t have their own medical school for students to feed into, they have one of the highest acceptance rates for students getting into medical schools, like the University of Michigan. In fact, Hope College has a 92% acceptance rate which is quite astonishing. The secret to this impressive statistic is a woman that Hope College has employed that solely puts student on a “pre med” track and helps them prepare for applying to medical school. She is there help students set up volunteer opportunities, shadowing experiences in hospitals, credits and classes necessary to graduate, and how to prepare for the MCAT. If I decided to go to Hope, it’d be a huge weight off of my shoulders knowing that I would have help navigating this stressful situation. Doing well in college classes and trying to stay focused on being admitted into medical school is hard enough as it is. Even though the University of Michigan is one of the most prestige schools in the nation and I’d receive one of the best educations, Hope colleges pre med track sounds like an offer I can’t pass
