An immigrant is a person who moves from one country to another for multiple reasons, but ultimately for a better life. The United States is founded on freedom and the belief of a better life. America has always prided themselves on being the cultural melting pot of the world. However, the increasing number of illegal immigrants is becoming a problem. Why is immigration considered such a large problem in this country? A concern amongst all Americans is that illegal immigrants put financial hardships on schools, hospitals, and often do not pay taxes at all. Many solutions have been suggested – from increasing border control and installing fences, to giving amnesty – but none of these have solved the problem. If we increase border control and install fences, we are only slowing down the problem. Furthermore, that would be very expensive and, based on past experience, not effective. Additionally, immigration has a negative effect on the atmosphere, ­disrupting animal migration and therefore the flow of rivers.
