Cannabis has been used over 10,000 years for medical and recreation uses, but not a single death has ever been recorded from the use of this substance. I believe that if cannabis was to be legalized in all states, and they started selling it in stores far less under age kids would be using it because you would need a state ID and be at least 21 years of age to even buy it. If they start using dispensaries, the drug dealers would start to disappear. Everybody constantly says that marijuana is a gateway drug, but that’s not true, it’s just the person selling the drugs trying to persuade the buyer to try harder drugs because they know marijuana isn’t addictive. If marijuana was to be legalized across all 50 states it could help produce billions of dollars in taxes annually by $8.7 billion dollars which in turn would help the nation get out of debt. If things that are harmful such as cigarettes and alcohol are legal then why shouldn’t somethings that hasn’t caused a death be legal as well? Today about 20 states legalized the use of marijuana and about 18 have decreased the punishment or even “decriminalized” the use of it. Some people believe that marijuana shouldn’t be placed in the same category as crack, meth, and heroin, but believe it should be placed in the same category as cigarettes and alcohol, when they fail to realize they are just addictive as the hard core drugs. Marijuana has been proven to help a lot of people with disorders, pains, sleeping problems, and etc. In 2015 legal marijuana made $996 million in taxes as in the $1.3 billion that was made this year already which is almost a 30% jump. The United States spends between fourteen and twenty billion dollars a year on their own War on Drugs. About two-thirds of that money is used to stop the supply, which essentially means to more funds for a larger law enforcement
