Growing up in a strict household in a small town I was taught to believe that Marijuana is an addictive gateway drug that causes cancer. Sounds bad, right? However, that’s just not the case. In today’s world people are simply uneducated when it comes to cannabis. Instead of being taught the uses, effects and possible side effects of consuming marijuana we are taught to fear it so that we will stay away. The use of Marijuana should be legal in the United States for two main reasons. The first reason is there are many effective health benefits of Cannabis. One way observed by 24 states in legalization of cannabis is to legalize the drug for medical use only, this tactic has seen great benefit for patients prescribed marijuana to treat an ailment. Against contrary belief in the ten-thousand years Marijuana has been used it has not been tied to a single death. However, it has been tied to successfully helping with patients with anxiety, depression, chronic pain, cancer, and many other diseases. Tetrahydrocannabinol is the active chemical that is responsible for the pain relief that comes with smoking Marijuana. If legalized cannabis can be taxed giving the government more spending money on important things for our country. It can create more jobs over all; from farmers to those who will own and run the store fronts, we will see a lot of new jobs generated in the United States which will further boost our economy. It will also open up new investments on the stock market further pushing our economy forward. Thinking back to health benefits cannabis is a much better alternative to many medications for people and their insurance agencies, because it costs less to produce and give to patients.
