Legalizing Marijuana Marijuana is the most familiar illegal drug used in the United States. Marijuana refers to the stems, dried leaves and flowers that come from the hemp plant cannabis sativa, which contains a chemical known to alter the mind; delta-9-tetrahydrocannabinal also known as (THC). Marijuana has many positive effects as well as negative effects. Many people argue whether marijuana should become legalized in the state of California or stay illegal. Marijuana can be used in many ways. A few favorable ways that marijuana is used is in the medicinal form which helps cancer patients and also the fact that it helps the economy with job opportunities. Everyone has their own opinion on whether the state of California should legalize marijuana, and both could be argued. Due to all the positive effects that marijuana has and all the users it already possesses, California should legalize marijuana.

Cancer is one of the few diseases in the world that has yet to find a cure. Cancer patients suffer everyday with the effects of cancer, treatments, and chemotherapy. Medicinal marijuana is a drug that provides the opportunity for people living with cancer, the chance to stimulate their appetite, help reduce pain and also improve their sleep and helps in controlling nausea and vomiting. Medicinal marijuana provides cancer patients with a method on reducing the miserable effects of chemotherapy. Patients suffering with lung cancer can also profit from smoking marijuana, since studies show that it does not actually cause cancer.
