Marijuana, a very controversial topic, has been discussed on nearly every platform in the United States. Marijuana has been given its controversial viewpoint through its unscrupulous depiction of being a dangerous drug that can greatly damage the population and future generations as a whole. This idea, however, is completely false and ridiculous. Due to this biased exposure through sources such as Deseret News who tells their audience that marijuana is “[...] bad for society”, marijuana has gained a negative connotation from the faulty media. What people fail to realize is that cannabis has many purposes other than recreational use. Medical marijuana has the ability to not only help lives but save lives too. Prescribed marijuana has the ability to give the less fortunate a second chance, and many people are ignoring its need of legality for reasons that are fruitless. Sisters, brothers, mothers, and even fathers are being diagnosed with the disease. Imagine that one’s mother was diagnosed with cancer. Would one want her to suffer? Medical marijuana gives cancer patients the opportunity to live the life that one deserves. A common treatment for cancer is chemotherapy. While going through chemotherapy, patients often suffer from fatigue and a loss of appetite. According to the American Cancer Society, the relaxant could help by increasing a patient’s appetite while going through chemo treatments, helping to decrease nauseation, and serving as a relaxant to soothe nerves and worries related to the patient’s sickness. With less suffrage for one to think about, one could focus their thoughts, efforts, and determination towards their overall health and recovery. So, if medical marijuana were to be legalized, cancer patients would be able to focus solely on their wellbeing and less on the suffrage that comes with cancer
