Legalization of marijuana has been a controversial and heated issue in America today. The prohibition polices of the making and drug consumption have simply not worked. While people quip consuming the drug dealers will quip producing. Marijuana should be legalized because it will return our personal liberties, deliquesce will decrease, and it will offer a simple solution for the decreasing economy.
Weed prohibition is a direct infringement of our personal liberties. Once President Abraham Lincoln stated that, “Prohibition goes beyond the bounds of reason in that it attempts to control a man’s appetite by legislation and makes a crime out of things that are not crimes.” Marijuana prohibition laws strikes a fatal blow at the ideologies and principles of freedom on which our republic was founded on. In this greatly advanced nation all individuals should be sovereign over their own lives and no one should be forced to renounce his or her values and freedoms as human being. People should be able to enjoy what they want without being persecuted for it. Reflecting on the same thing that happened when alcohol was prohibited, people are now also finding new ways to break the law to get what makes them happy, violating their rights eventually leading the prohibition amendment had to be revoked.

According to the FBI's Uniform Crime Reporting data, “there were a total of 1.5 million drug arrests made nationwide in 2011, and out of those arrests, about 750,000 were for marijuana or 49.5%”. This proves how much time is being spent in stopping people with this marijuana when instead they could be stopping rapist, killers, or real delinquents. With the legalization not will only the US government lower the income of the mafia but it will relieve itself from so many prisoners who were arrested from being caught with
