Give Marijuana a Chance
The question whether or not to legalize marijuana has become a bigger issue threatening our nation today. For the past decade, marijuana has been illicit according to the United State Government. Besides liquor and tobacco, Marijuana is considered as the third most prominent recreational substance in the United States. The only reason marijuana is different from alcohol and tobacco is because it has not been legalized. Health professionals have proven that it is not as harmful as compared to other drugs such as cocaine and heroin. According to Jeffery Miron, the author of Libertarianism, different state in the America including Alaska, Colorado, Oregon, and Washington have passed a law permitting adults 21 years of age or older to use marijuana. The use of marijuana can significantly increase our country’s revenue and also serve as medicinal purposes.

According to the Marijuana Legalization Organization (MLO), if marijuana were legal, implementation expenses would be zero, and governments could require taxes on the production and sale of marijuana. Thus, government expenditures would decline, and tax revenue would increase and the government would have more cash to spend on critical issues. In addition, taxes taken from these drug taxpayers can be used by the government to develop different projects or better still pay effective drug education program. It is high time the government realized that spending billions of money on marijuana smokers, incarcerating them as well as providing them with food and shelter is a waste of money? After all, the use of marijuana is not that harmful as confirmed by several health professionals.
