In school, multiple students have been complaining about how irrelevant recess is, while others are wanting more recess time. The overall question is: should recess be discontinued at Deer Park School? I, with no doubt whatsoever, believe that recess should be discontinued. Admittedly, students need to exercise outside for recess in order to stay fairly fit. According to a scientist named Rob Scientist, “30 minutes of exercise per day has been proven to reduce childhood obesity” (Scientist). Rob is substantially stating that when children exercise at least a half of an hour a day, they reduce childhood obesity. Almost every single day, especially in the winter, students beg the teachers, just so they can stay inside. Winter time, because of the icy ground, below freezing temperatures, and wet clothing, is a very popular season where students do not want to stay outside for fifteen minutes. The reasons for not wanting to walk outside for recess can vary. Students might have plenty of homework to finish, they might not like the weather, they do not enjoy the playground equipment, or they would rather help teachers who might possibly need assistance. What is trying to be said is: what is the point of having recess time when the majority of the students do not even appreciate recess in the first? Obviously, Deer Park School, undoubtedly, should discontinue recess time. Admittedly, recess is a chance for students to exercise more, however; there are plenty of different ways students can exercise out of school. Furthermore, several students are bullied on the playground. To add on, multiple students do not enjoy recess.
