Standardized Testing
In a classroom every test a student receives is from their teacher that know what they have learned and can apply that information on the test. However, the state crates standardized test on what they believe students know and the strict way of how it should have been taught. This is not the best way to credit a student’s knowledge .Tests do no measure ones caliber, it puts unnecessary pressure on students and testing anxiety blocks the opportunity to score well. Standardized testing should be removed from the Education Code because it is ineffective.
Test scores do not accurately exhibit the amount of knowledge students learn in an entire course. In a healthy classroom students are able to demonstrate skills, creative thinking, and major improvements. Depending on how well students score on an end of course exam determines if they can proceed to the next grade level or get held back until the satisfactory standards are met (Justine Law). This makes test takers feel pressured by themselves, their teachers, and parents to earn a successful score. For instance, knowing what to studying for the cumulative test. “Each school district, charter school, and country office of education shall administer to each of its pupils in grades 2-11 the achievement test designed by the state board”(Justine Law). Since the state composes standardized tests teachers do not know what to expect for their students; they attempt to review the entire curriculum in a matter of days. Also, some of the material covered in the course might not appear on the test or test takes might be asked about things they have not yet learned in class.
