Right now there are millions of human beings left wandering in the Middle East wondering when they will have their next meal and wondering when they will find a new place to call their home again, and this crisis is known as the Syrian refugee crisis. Whether we should take Syrian refugees in isn’t just a debate happening here in the U.S. it has actually been a problem in other countries like England. With the stigma that terrorist attacks lead by ISIL are hiding in every possible nook and cranny, a majority of the U.S. are terrified to accept migrants from the Middle East, but is shutting down and closing our borders the correct solution to this crisis? The U.S. is currently recovering from the Great Recession of 2008 and we have to keep in mind that quite a large amount of our citizens are living under the poverty line. According to the Huffington Post “more than 45 million people, or 14.5 percent of all Americans, lived below the poverty line [in this past] year”, this means that we need to focus on helping our own citizens before we can help strangers (Gongloff 1). A lot of people are unable to pay their bills and can’t even afford to buy food for their families. Right now Hillary is trying to raise the federal limit of refugees per year from 10,000 to 65,000 and “US taxpayers will hand over around $20,000 to settle each ‘refugee’ and ‘asylum seeker,’ coming to America in terms of the Obama Middle East Refugee Policy”, which means in the next 4 years we will be taking over 260,000 refugees and we will have to pay about 52 million dollars for all of them (Newobserveronline 1). This is insane when we think about how we are helping complete strangers that we have to spend even more money just to make sure if they are safe to bring into the country anyways, we should be focusing our efforts on helping our own homeless population
