Texting while driving is a serious issue that most teenagers and their parents overlook. I think we need to bring it to attention. Did you know it only takes one foolish person to take the lives of many innocent people. If you are on your phone in the car, the average time you have your eyes off the road is 5 seconds. Going 55 miles per hour, that is long enough to cross an entire football field.
Do you think it is fair for the victim to go through the peril of the accident because you had to receive, compose, or send a text message? Texting while driving has caused 18% of all fatal crashes. 3,092 people lost their lives, and 416,000 people were injured. The Virginia Tech Transportation Institute confirmed that every time you look at your phone, it increases your chances of crashing by 23x.

Many teens know the facts and why they shouldn't do it, but do you really think they abide by those rules? Teens ages 18-20 caused 18% of every car accident. We could solve this conflict by making classes clearer, and to not take the subject lightly. Also, parents need to be a good example. If your child sees you on your phone, they are most likely to think that they can do it also without hurting them, the passengers, or the other drivers.
