Texting and Driving
Texting while driving is a growing epidemic and it is extremely dangerous. Over the course of the past decade, thousands of teens have died from texting while driving. Today there are warning signs everywhere trying to persuade drivers not to text and drive, but how well are they actually working? This issue is not just a concern with young drivers. Adults are just as guilty as teenagers when it comes to texting and driving. Teens say that their parents warn them of the dangers of texting and driving, but their parents do it “all the time” (Halsey). Despite thousands of deaths per year attributed to texting and driving, people just are not getting the message. This is an epidemic, and it should be handled accordingly.

At the age of nineteen, Reggie hit and killed two grown men. He made one poor decision and in a split second, it cost the lives of two innocent people. Two families lost a loved one that they will never be able to have back. This young man made a poor choice, and he suffers from it every day. This accident gives a perfect example of how one bad decision made someone look like a monster for what he did, and destroyed countless lives. One may argue that it should be their right and they should be able to choose whether they can text and drive or not. Another person may argue that if something happened to a loved one while they were driving, they would not be able to get in touch with them. Another argument might be that the vehicle they will purchase would be more expensive with the extra equipment. Some people will argue that they are safe drivers, and that they have never been in any accident involving a cell phone. In order to succeed in reducing accidents related to cell phone use, those people must be convinced that this is not to punish them, but rather to save innocent people from being hurt. This is something that should fall under the same category as drinking and driving, because they are both life
