Although the ding of a phone could signal an urgent situation, cell phone usage while driving needs to become a strictly obeyed law in the U.S. Being on your phone while driving can not only injure you but also others outside your car. Phone usage distracts the driver by affecting their view of things around them. Use of the phone needs to become a strict law to anyone driving a vehicle because it can hurt you, others outside of the car, and can distract your vision from the road and surroundings.
You can be injured. Driving while being on your phone can leave you with serious injuries or may even be your last time seeing that phone. Do you want your last day on earth to be flipped on the side of the road because you or the other driver at fault decided to use their phone and not pay attention? If you look at your phone for one second or even just for a minute, you chance of a crash greatly increases. The amount of time you’re on your phone does not affect your chances of crashing, use of the phone while driving does. Your phone can distract you from your surroundings. Eyesite in a car can become increasingly harder when you look down because you can’t see as much as if you were looking up. “It is easy to understand why using a hand-held phone is a problem: in addition to having your eye on the road, with one hand on the wheel it is harder to navigate bends and respond to hazards” (Crundall). Some people may be great at multitasking, but this should never be done in the driver’s seat. Focus on paying attention to the road, and getting you and your passengers in your car, where you need to go
