Ten percent of public school students attend a year round school according to "Learning Liftoff”. Year round schooling is a controversial topic due to having benefits and doubts. Compared to a traditional school calendar which has a 60 day summer vacation, a year round schedule has a 30 day summer break and more throughout the year. This can lead to many troubles, but can also benefit the students. Though both are in the classroom for 180 days each year. Even though they have the same exact time to learn, year round school has a break every 45 school days instead of one long one. Although a traditional school calendar does have some benefits, a year round calendar is a better choice.
One reason that year round schooling is the better choice

It is stereotyped that if a person comes from a lower income house then they won’t have as good of an education. While this can be true in some places due to not having as many opportunities, most of the time they can be just as smart or even better than other classmates. Low income schools don’t have as many resources to provide to students as high income schools. With less resources the students don’t have as many studying tools that they can access, leading to lower test scores. With year round schooling, the test grades of low income schools have increased by a good amount. These improved test grades will benefit the student and their family, allowing them to get scholarships and be accepted into great colleges without putting a burden on a family's bank account. These colleges should open up opportunities for good jobs. So, year round schooling can increase the performances of students, leading to life round benefits. Another quote that shows the improvement due to year round schooling is from an article called “Year Round Schooling” that says that “students have less time to forget material after a …show more content…
Louis Emery, who wrote the article “Year Round School: How It Works and Why It’s Awesome” states that “with the year round school calendar, our school system can take a building just big enough for 900 students, and use it to educate 1,200 students. This really eases the overcrowding that plagues lots of school systems”(Emery page 4). In most schools, specifically city schools, overcrowding is a big issue. Year round schooling helps solve that problem. It does this by issuing a 4 track system. This is where the students are separated into groups and are taught separately. Each track has their own schedule allowing one to be out of school while the other three are in. This allows schools to combine and will only have to pay for one building while still teaching the same amount of students as before. This can cut costs for the building allowing them to put more funding toward the children. Another article written by Evan Brandt states that “the schedule would be staggered so that all 975 students would only be in the middle school building at the same time for 15 out of 60 days''(Brandt page 2). If schools ease overcrowding then that will allow teachers to focus on students. Only 15 out of 60 days will every student be at the school. This allows teachers for the other 45 days to focus on their students in order for them to educate them better. When a teacher does not have to keep track
