Try remembering something from two months ago; it is difficult, isn’t it? That is what students go through every summer. Being a student is hard enough, let alone having to remember every little thing from the previous academic year. Brains just don’t work like that, trying to retain knowledge without continuous enrichment is a pretty difficult task. So why are schools still making the kids do it? This is called “Summer Learning Loss”, a term to capture the decline in comprehension over the break. A study was conducted in 2020 by Megan Kuhfeld (Nwea) proving the effects of summer learning loss “This study found that the average student lost 17-84% of the prior year’s learning gains during the summer break.” (1st-8th grade). Many benefits for teachers include shorter breaks spread out throughout the year; because of this, teachers will not need to worry about the two months' pay break that most go
