On October 11th 1939, President Frank D. Roosevelt received a letter from Albert Einstein and Leo Szilard that urged him to create an advisory committee regarding the use of nuclear weapons of mass destruction in World War II. Pearl Harbor was attacked by the Japanese on December 7th 1941. Article One, Section Eight of the Constitution states that Congress is given specific authority to declare war, raise and support armies and provide for a navy to protect citizens from foreign threats and thus the United States formally declared war on the Japanese, enraged by Japan’s actions against them. It can be used to produce and generate electricity efficiently. This reduces the use of fossil fuels like coal and oil which in turn means lowering the emission of greenhouse gases such carbon dioxide and methane. If the bomb is created, I propose that we should have a purely technical demonstration in a military controlled environment so that there will be no loss of innocent lives. This will give us a chance to test the atomic bomb and give us the opportunity to understand more about nuclear power and use that knowledge to further scientific developments. Using an atomic bomb against a civilian population would cause devastation, destruction and it would result in the loss of the lives of hundreds and thousands of blameless civilians. A monitoring body or an advisory committee, which consists of individuals who are well-informed and well-educated on the subject of nuclear power, should be created which will discuss the further development and proper use of nuclear energy. This should prevent the misuse of nuclear weaponry and nuclear energy, and it could also help in furthering scientific research about nuclear energy. Nuclear energy can be used to both destroy and to benefit humanity. We must make sure that the decisions we make regarding nuclear energy lead to the advancement of humanity and
