The client is open to change and growing and through that they are more open to new experiences and self- exploration (Gladding, 2018, pg. 161).

Therefore, you have to look at how you are going to get to these goals and what is used to get there. There are three necessary conditions in counseling. These include empathy, unconditional positive regard, and congruence (Gladding, 2018, pg. 162). My life philosophy focuses on finding your potential and living for yourself. Rollo May and Victor Frankl are two of the main founders of existential counseling and they focused on meaning during the worst situations in life. Rollo May dealt with anxiety and illnesses whereas Victor Frankl dealt with the concentration camps and finding meaning beyond that. Existential counseling focuses on choices and that every thing in life has a choice. Some may have more meaning than others depending on the situation but the aim is to understand life and its opportunities. Victor Frankl had a popular theory known as logo therapy in which the meaning is found at three levels. The first is ultimate meaning which basically just means there is order to the universe (Gladding, 2018, pg. 164). Secondly you have meaning of the moment and then finally common day-to-day meaning (Gladding, 2018, pg. 164). Each one of these meaning is part of his logo therapy. He also explained that we can discover meaning in our life in three ways. The first is by doing a deed, second by experiencing a value and third by suffering (Gladding, 2018, pg. 164). They both seek to aim towards helping the client realize who they are and their potential in life. Both approaches are more focused on the client rather than the counselor so that they can experience the meaning in their lives. According to an article, they both seek for authenticity and being your best self. “It’s believed that a person must be whatever one can be in if he or she is to be at peace with oneself” (Winston, 2015). They seek out the best in clients and who they are. If you are not happy with yourself and who you are then you have the choice to change it. It focuses on the power of change in your life and taking hold of what you as individual can learn and seek about yourself.
