I agree the objective has to be clear on both ends for the best outcome. I like how you mention the person teaching needs to know and understand the background of the patient's needs rather than just going through the motions. Nurses are educator's every day, quite often work on autopilot and are multitasking sometimes not having enough time to sit with our patients. It is the nurse's responsibility in my opinion to make sure the patient and family understand what to expect of their care plan regarding their health.
