Teaching Statement
I have taught a variety of courses at the University of Wyoming in addition to 4th and 5th grade math and science. It has always been a rewarding experience that has presented its own set of challenges and victories each year. My student evaluations have been exemplary and have allowed me to reflect upon my teaching. I believe that effective, intentional teaching is developed best by those willing to critically self-examine their approaches and strategies. If one fails to learn from the past, stagnation leads to the end of effective classroom instruction. As a teacher my job is to inspire, innovate, and instruct my students in a variety of ways, while continuing to improve my own knowledge and skills through professional development and self-education.

I aim to teach as much content as possible, but the reality is that some students will have a steep learning curve once they reach the classroom. I am candid about this with my students and attempt to instill a desire to continually improve. While I may not be able to impart all of my knowledge, I can help students to become better learners who are equipped to become excellent educators. This will help them as they progress through the program and provide them with the wisdom to seek help and further information when they meet an obstacle. My ultimate goal in learning and teaching are the same: to continually improve and learn from the past and others around me. By setting an example for my students in this regard, I have students that seek to take as many of my courses as possible and are often disappointed when they are unable to register for my courses. As an educator, it has always been my hope to guide students to be effective, intentional teachers.
